getting up at 6.00 am again, off to Bali. We are staying at Alila Villas Soori. After this very intense experience in Flores Bali seems so civilised, so rich and full of everything. We are being picked up by a driver from the hotel with all comfort you can imagine. A bottle of water, some snacks, pillows for the ride and a refreshment spray with an aloe vera....scent. It is an one our ride from the airport to the hotel, we are passing by some very fresh and green rice fields. When we get to the hotel I almost start crying. An entourage of 7 people is expecting us, big A had to walk the last meters, you know the car sickness again. This hotel is placed at an amazing black sanded beach with dramatic waves, even to dramatic for surfing as the waves break to early, whatever.

Each villa has its separate pool and is facing the beach. From the beach side it looks a little bit like a terraced house estate. The architecture is a mix of Peter Zumthor and the jewish memorial in berlin, very minimal and grey. The guests are very stylish and look even more stylish on the grey fonds, the perfect background to make them all shine. It is to much for me, i have seen the most beautiful and very ugly things in a couple of days. So many poor things and so much luxury, tears rolling down my cheeks.

Bali rice fields...I actually forgot but you do miss them, as no other farming comes as cute and colorful.


Early flights...again...but with a pick-up as described, comfy.

Alila Villas Soori is located amidst rice fields, on a black sanded, or let me call it "powdered" beach. And so this is what you see when you´re having tea time on the back terrace facing the fields

Swimming is tricky and surfing too, but the masive waves, at any time of day, make a beautiful dramatic backdrop and a great lullaby.


The range of amenities at Alila´s is most remarkable and the house own hmmm...let´s call it beauty line is locally produced, organic and comes with the best smelling sunscreen, insect repellent I ever used. We will get more details...

The view over our little terrace, from our bed, across our private pool to the beach with its impressive surf´n waves...imagine the soundtrack...



Yeah happy kids with more TV sets than you need and on top of channels including disney and cartooon network there´s a pre loaded Apple TV...Aafter a week of austerity we didn´t feel like bothering them with more impressive views and let them do the kids thing.

For Mr and Mrs Trip on the other hand, the apartment and Bar came pre filled with amouse gueule, we took comfortably to our deckchairs on the green above the beach with the matching drinks.....Welcome...
Alila sends you a guest preference summary per email before your stay, and as you can see it is highly recommended to answer their quick polite questions. Then this isn´t the only little nice surprise, but you will also find books in your apartment and a nicely edited Apple TV box as well as iPods, to name a few things. We will get to the hotel´s itinerary for our stay later.

There´s a funny batcave at the far end of the beach and these little beasts make spooky noises at daytime when you visit them and provide a funny little performance when they fly out from their hideout during sunset...
