Spring Break at the Ace Hotel

It started so well with Radiohead and Johnny Cash. For the first time, I'm not annoyed by music at the pool. The kids and I have gone swimming early in the morning while daddy is at work in LA making some money to feed the family. Actually, it’s super-nice here at the Ace Hotel & Swim Club. The service is not too cool for school like we’d heard – in fact, everybody is friendly and really easy-going.

Palm Canyon

In the morning we’re off to Palm Canyon, a “must”, as a mom told me at La Quinta. “The palm-tree arrangements look like they were built for Disneyland.” Part of the Agua Caliente Indian Reservation, Palm Canyon is quite impressive, perfect for hiking and other outdoor activities.

A very sad lake

Salton Sea
Before we arrive to our next hotel we make a short trip to the Salton Sea. As we get out of the car, we are overwhelmed by the stink of dead crabs and algae. It is deathly silent, except for the lonesome howl of passing freight trains, a sound I had previously only known from movies.

Running at La Quinta Resort Palms Springs

Today I completed the 7-mile trail in 1 hour, 38 minutes. I had to stop at every water dispenser to cool myself down, although it's not too hot. It’s actually quite comfortable, about 28-30°C in the afternoon. When we were here last time in the summer the average temperature was about 40° and it didn’t cool down by night. Our savior was the water sprinklers placed on the balconies to cool down the air with a fine mist in the evening – sexy indeed.

PALMS SPRINGS DESERT

A DESERT IS A PLACE WITHOUT EXPECTATIONS

Palms Springs: La Quinta Resort

Best wishes from La Quinta Resort. We are very happy here. The weather is great, and the sun is burning. The food is Mexican and delicious. The margaritas are organic and also fantastic. Last night I had two of them, big ones with straws, and slept very well afterwards.
